The Coast Guard Service – Gulf of Aden Sector on Saturday, December 27, 2025, warned citizens and bathers against swimming or approaching the coast during the current period, along the coasts of the governorates of Aden, Abyan and Shabwa, in southern Yemen, in order to preserve their safety.

The authority explained that this warning comes in the context of the recording of dozens of injured who were transferred to hospitals in Aden, Abyan and Shabwa, following exposure to attacks by “seven fish” while they were swimming.

She pointed out that this period corresponds to the mating season for this type of fish, as it prefers to be near the coast and can show hostile behavior towards humans when approaching its distribution areas.

She explained that the danger of this fish lies in the fact that it embeds the spine of its tail into the foot or hand, releasing a toxic substance that can cause severe swelling, dizziness, nausea and dehydration, and complications can worsen and lead to death if the injured person is not treated urgently.

The Coast Guard Department called on everyone to heed the warning and avoid swimming or going near beaches during this period, for the sake of lives and the safety of citizens.
